Police Aap ki Mohafiz – My experience with Islamabad Police!!

A few weeks ago, I went for a hike on Trail 6, Margala Hills on a Saturday morning with a local tourism company. We were a large group of 30 people -left the Faisal Masjid parking at around 9 AM in the morning. After a strenuous hike, we came back at 4 pm and noticed  two policemen standing near our group’s parked cars. Initially, I thought we were going to be in trouble but then after the conversation with the police, it strengthened my trust on police more than I could have imagined.

One of my  friends who was late to meet up; in a rush to catch up with us, he had actually forgotten to  to close his car’s driving seat window and lock his car. The police were there, guarding his vehicle and stood there for hours, ensuring the safety of the car. The police did not complain about us wasting their time but after verifying the owner of the car, kindly said that “We have been waiting here for cars, to make sure that your car is not stolen.”

I must say, this is the highest level of professionalism I have ever seen in my life so far! They didn’t ask for any money, and just let us go after the owner’s verification.

Such Policemen are the brave souls who put their lives on the line each and every day to help ensure a safe society and lookout for the wellbeing of the community. These unsung heroes choose to deal with complex, dangerous, and confusing situations in the underbelly of society, situations to which most of us get the privilege of turning a blind eye.

I want to say thank you to these policemen Mr. Altaf Hussain and and Mr. Gul Sher, along with the many good policemen who serve our communities, keep us safe, protect the abused, keep getting up and going each and every day, and do it all for low pay and little thanks. Thank you for the many times you choose to be professional and respectful and calm, even when what is thrown at you is the complete opposite most of the times.

I would like to express my gratitude towards your noble profession and the safety that most citizens take for granted.
