Karachi, PC Hotel: The Millennium Universal College (TMUC) organized Professional Accountancy Symposium 2020 in an effort to bridge the gap between industry and the academia at PC Hotel, Karachi.
This symposium aims to provide a platform for academia-industry alliances where academia and industry representatives guided participants with their views concerning the scope and impact of future ready talent.
Opening remarks were given by Taimoor Beiram Khan (Head of Business Development South ACCA Pakistan) followed by Key note speech from Mr Asim Siddiqui (Country Managing Partner EY Ford Rhodes). Representatives from leading corporates were part of the panel discussion which was the main highlight of the symposium. The guest panel comprised of Mr. Zulfikar Akhtar Mian (Partner PWC), Ms. Hena Sadiq (Partner Deloitte Pakistan), Mr. Naved Hashmi (Director Finance Excellent Team, Unilever), Mr. Mustafa Kamal (Head of Business Finance KE), Mr. Zaheer Mehdi (SVP Engro Corporation Limited), Mr. Khalid Mahmood (Partner KPMG) whereas , Sidra Iqbal (Senior Broadcast Journalist and Anchorperson) moderated the discussion.
The audience was mainly represented by working professionals, representatives of industrial sector, academicians, and students from TMUC and other local colleges. Panel Discussion majorly revolved around finance competencies required for strategic decision making, acquiring relevant skills to address business needs, investment in automation tools, managing talent and gender diversity, role of data in future accountancy, market demand for budding graduates among other aspects.
In the closing remarks, Mr Amin Hashwani (Founder Charter of Compassion Pakistan) stressed upon the importance of chartered accountancy profession in context of CPEC and soft skills requirement to take things forward professionally in an organization.
