TMUC and Islamabad High Court Bar Association Sign Landmark MoU to Strengthen Legal Education and Professional Exposure

The Millennium Universal College (TMUC) and the Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at a prestigious ceremony held at The Forum, TMUC Islamabad, marking an important step towards strengthening the bridge between legal education, courtroom practice and the legal profession.

The MoU establishes a structured framework of collaboration encompassing practitioner-led lectures, mentoring, moot court and advocacy training, legal clinics, court visits, internships, chamber and law-firm placements, professional development and legal awareness initiatives.

The ceremony brought together distinguished representatives of the legal profession, TMUC leadership, faculty and students. Barrister Ch Muhammad Ali Raza, Committee Chairperson, Islamabad High Court Bar Association, led the IHCBA delegation along with members of the Bar and accompanying entourage.

Among the distinguished guests was Ambassador Sardar Masood Khan, President, Center for Law and Security, who shared his perspective on strengthening the relationship between legal education, professional practice and the evolving requirements of the legal sector. His keynote address provided an important perspective for students aspiring to careers in law and related fields.

Barrister Qasim Nawaz Abbasi, Secretary, Islamabad High Court Bar Association, also delivered a keynote address, highlighting the value of meaningful engagement between practising lawyers and law students and the importance of exposure to the realities of professional practice.

The CEO of TMUC addressed the gathering and discussed the provisions and institutional significance of the MoU, particularly its potential to create structured opportunities for students to engage with practising members of the legal profession. The collaboration provides for practitioner sessions, mentoring, internships and chamber placements, moot court and advocacy support, and guided visits to the Islamabad High Court and other courts, subject to applicable permissions and requirements.

The event was attended by University of London (UoL) and University of Hertfordshire (UH) Law students, who were present in formal black-and-white lawyers’ dress, creating a strong representation of TMUC’s future legal professionals.

Representing TMUC were Verda Yousuf, Head of Student Engagement & Industry Linkages; Muneeze Muzaffar, Head of Institute; Maureen Zaidi, Head of Department of Laws, along with faculty members, colleagues and members of the wider TMUC community.

A significant aspect of the collaboration is its focus on practical legal exposure. Under the MoU, the IHCBA will support moot court programmes by nominating senior members of the Bar as coaches, judges and adjudicators, while guided visits to the Islamabad High Court and, where arrangements permit, District Courts Islamabad, will provide students opportunities to observe proceedings and interact with members of the Bar.

The ceremony concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony and networking session, providing an opportunity for TMUC students, faculty, institutional leadership and members of the legal profession to connect and discuss future avenues of collaboration.

The MoU is set for an initial period of three years, with the parties intending to review its implementation annually and develop an ongoing calendar of collaborative activities.

The TMUC-IHCBA partnership represents a commitment to enriching legal education through meaningful interaction with practitioners and creating structured pathways for students to develop professional awareness, advocacy skills, practical exposure and career readiness.
