TMUC and IPO Pakistan Lead Dialogue on Intellectual Property in the Digital Era

Islamabad, Pakistan – 4th August 2025 – The Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) of Pakistan, in collaboration with The Millennium Universal College (TMUC), hosted a workshop titled “Unlocking IP Value in the Digital Age” on Monday, 4th August 2025, at TMUC Islamabad.

The event served as a pivotal platform for knowledge-sharing on the evolving dynamics of intellectual property (IP) in an increasingly digital and AI-driven world. It also marked a moment of achievement for TMUC students, as certificates were presented to those who completed their internships with IPO Pakistan.

Ambassador Masood Khan, President of TMUC Higher Education Group, delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the growing importance of intellectual property, particularly in the context of technological advancement. He emphasized how IP has become central to innovation and national development, encouraging students and institutions alike to invest in understanding and leveraging it.

The workshop featured expert-led sessions by leading international scholars and practitioners in the field of IP. Professor Alexander J. Wurzer addressed the complexities of intellectual property in the age of artificial intelligence and the urgent need for updated legal frameworks to keep pace with AI-driven innovation. Mr. Gonzalo Rovera Plancarte, a young expert from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), discussed property commercialisation and the importance of creating a strong intellectual property ecosystem that supports economic growth. Fatma Samir, Executive Director of the IP Training Centre of Egypt, shared insights on unlocking IP value in the digital age, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges that come with technological transformation.

Each speaker emphasized the necessity for countries like Pakistan to develop integrated IP strategies that align with the global shift toward digital economies, AI adoption, and knowledge-based industries.

The workshop concluded with remarks from retired Ambassador Farukh Amil, representing IPO Pakistan, who praised the initiative and reaffirmed IPO’s commitment to promoting a robust IP culture in Pakistan. Ambassador Masood Khan also delivered closing remarks, stressing the importance of experiential learning and knowledge-based internships in equipping students for careers in intellectual property and innovation.

As a highlight of the event, TMUC students who completed their internships at IPO Pakistan were awarded certificates in recognition of their hard work and commitment. A summary of the sessions was also presented to conclude the day’s proceedings.

This collaborative initiative between IPO Pakistan and TMUC reflects a growing emphasis on educational partnerships, global knowledge exchange, and the development of a forward-looking intellectual property ecosystem in Pakistan.
